Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal is the first film in India based on football. The movie was directed by Vivek Agnihothri of the Chocolate fame. Actually the director's real goal was not football but it was a part of the screen play. He tried to show the racist attitudes against the South Asians who are living in Europe.

England was the setting for the film. Southall United is a football club. All the players in the team are South Asians. This club has lots of problems as it lacks good players, a coach and sponsors which are a big part of a game. The city council asks them to handover their ground, because the club has failed to clear the taxes and lease.

The only way to solve this problem is to win the counties league. Southall United captain Shaan Ali Khan (Arshad Warsi) takes this as a challenge. Tony Singh (Boman Irani), an ex-player of the club takes the responsibility to coach the team. He invites a South Asian Sunny (John Abraham) to Southall United, who is playing for another club Aston.

Sunny first rejects this offer. When he loses his place in Aston because of racial discrimination, he joins the Southall club. Many of Southall club members reject him. But he concentrates only on the game and takes the team to the semi finals. At that stage he leaves the team as he recieves a better offer.

But he realizes that he made a mistake when he learns that his father was a former captain for Southall who gets beaten up by some Europeans after he plays them. It will be Tony Singh who would have saved him.

The director has concentrated mostly on the football game than his original line. But he has failed to give full justice to the game. John Abraham failed to impress. Arshad Warsi has given his best but did not suit the role. Nothing to say about Bipasha Basu. Bomani Irani performed his role well.

Javed Akthar's lyrics were good but failed because of lack of good music from Pritam. Camera work by Attar Singh Saini was excellent.

JO Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

There is a strong relation between sports and Bollywood for many years now. Many films have been produced on the basis of sports. It is one of the most successful formula in Indian films. Sports based films show the heroes in a different angle. It gives scope to act in various ways.

Aamir Khan is always in front of the line to act in these types of movies. From the start of his career he has done several movies related to sports. They have all been successful.

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar is one among them. It was a block buster in the 90s.

This movie involved an inter school bicycle race in a small town Dehradun. All students in the town dream of participating from their school. The competition is between the Rajput school and the remaining ordinary schools.

Sanjay Lal, played by Aamir Khan, never thinks of competing in the race. But participates in the race instead of his brother, who is injured because of the students from the Rajput school. The story is about how he wins the race. On the other side, there is some family drama and a love story.

This movie was directed by Mansoor Khan who did a great job. Another asset of this film is selecting a beautiful town giving it a fresh look.

Aamir Khan
gave an outstanding performance as a careless guy at the beginning, as a lover and his dedication to win. Ayesha Jhulka as his friend and lover was also very good. All the remaining characters given good performances.

After 10 years the same film with the name Thammudu was produced in Tollywood. Instead of a cycle race they used boxing. It was a super hit. Hero Pawan Kalyan became a star. Many producers are thinking of remaking the film in Hindi again. It still continues to be a popular film.
